WEEKEND BOX OFFICE RESULTS: JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 DESTROYS COMPETITION WITH FRANCHISE-BEST OPENING
Mr. Wick, countdown. Fans of John unquestionably do not have him on the clock. They have demonstrated that they are not only prepared for each new installment of the series,
which has consistently raised the bar, but they are also winning over new fans. John Wick has established itself as one of those rare franchises, similar to Mad Max and Mission:
Impossible, that only seem to get better as they go. It started out modestly as a moderately successful action movie, and has since had sequels that have increased their grosses,
profits, and international collections. The numbers only grow, much like the bounty on Wick's head.
With a modest $14.4 million, it all began in October 2014. In February 2017, Chapter 2raked in $30.4 million in its first weekend.
Chapter 3 was then shifted to the summer months in order to earn $56.8 million in May 2019. Now, nearly four years later, John Wick:
Chapter 4 has opened with $73.5 million, which is the sixth-highest opening for Lionsgate and the highest for any movie besides The Hunger Games and Twilight. Seventh chapter is now Chapter 3.
Between 300 ($70.8 million) and The Lorax ($70.2 million), it has the 12th-best March opening of all time. How likely is John Wick to reach that milestone given that Jordan Peele's Us was the only movie to debut this month with a domestic gross of over $70 million but fall short of $200 million
