She was born on November 29, 2001 in Hillsdale, New Jersey.
Dunne began gymnastics at the age of 2 and started competing at age 6.
She trained at the Eastern National Academy of Paramus, New Jersey, under Maggie Haney, who also coached Olympic medalists Laurie Hernandez and Jazmyn Foberg.
Dunne is a six-time U.S. National Team member and was named to the 2021 Tokyo Olympic team as an alternate.
She is also a two-time U.S. uneven bars champion (2018, 2021) and a two-time U.S. balance beam champion (2018, 2021).
Dunne has verbally committed to compete for Louisiana State University (LSU) in college gymnastics.
In addition to gymnastics, Dunne is also interested in fashion and has expressed a desire to pursue a career in the industry after her gymnastics career.
Dunne has faced some controversy related to her former coach, Maggie Haney, who was suspended by USA Gymnastics in April 2020 for emotional and verbal abuse of gymnasts. Dunne was one of the gymnasts who spoke out about Haney's behavior, and she ultimately left Haney's gym in May 2020 to train elsewhere.
Despite the challenges she faced with her former coach, Dunne has continued to excel in gymnastics and has been praised for her mental toughness and resilience.
In addition to her gymnastics accomplishments, Dunne is also an accomplished student. She graduated from high school early with a 4.0 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Dunne has spoken openly about her struggles with body image and disordered eating, and has used her platform to advocate for body positivity and mental health awareness.
She is also involved in charitable work, including supporting organizations that promote diversity and inclusion in gymnastics and raising money for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Dunne is known for her unique and creative skills on uneven bars, including a skill named after her - the Dunne Dismount - which involves a double front flip dismount from the high bar.
