Manchester, NJ, wildfire threatens homes and forces evacuations.

Manchester, NJ—  The state Forest Fire Service ordered 170 houses and other structures to evacuate due to a fast-moving wildfire that reached 2,500 acres early Wednesday morning.

The service reported 75 endangered structures. Ocean County Sheriff's Office sent an email and text message at 10:57 p.m.

The Manchester Office of Emergency Management ordered mandatory evacuations along Beckerville Road, Horicon Avenue, and Horicon Drive in Whiting due to the fire, the township said.

Evacuees were directed to Manchester Township High School.

The "Jimmy's Waterhole Fire" was 10% contained early Wednesday as firefighters from the Forest Fire Service and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Fire Department worked together Tuesday night.

The state agency reported a fire on Route 539 and Horicon Avenue in Manchester on U.S. military, state, and private property.
