The US disaster management office reported on Wednesday that hail damaged more than 100 cars in Rusk County, Texas.
Rusk County, which comprises the communities of Henderson and New London, is located about 60 miles southwest of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Some buildings have also been damaged, according to the office's follow-up tweet. Other reports of large hail in Central Texas include tennis ball-sized hail in Eastland County
which is along Interstate 20 about 70 miles southwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, and baseball-sized hail in nearby Erath County.
A funnel cloud was briefly visible near Valley Mills, Texas, about 20 miles northwest of Waco, soon before 5 p.m. local time.
The storms are part of a line that could generate severe hail, powerful winds and a few tornadoes from Texas to the Gulf Coast and Florida through Thursday.
