Battle of the super shoes: Nike under threat in London

Competition between shoe companies has been compared to Formula One and will continue on London's streets.

Nike runners have dominated the marathon since these shoes were introduced in 2016, and the corporation has benefited financially.

Of course, it helped that world record holder Eliud Kipchoge was featured in the iconic swoosh.

In the six main marathon competitions in 2019, Nike athletes claimed 31 of the 36 podium spots. It conveyed a message to regular runners.

The Boston Marathon on Monday provided a vivid illustration of this, with runners donning the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3 winning the first four spots in the men's race.

The Kenyan Hellen Obiri used a prototype from the Swiss brand, On, to win the women’s event

Although Nike athletes continued to perform well, Kipchoge's struggle to finish sixth seemed to signal a change in the leadership.

First place, a world record, and brand bragging rights will be on the line when Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir of Adidas competes against the world record holder Brigid Kosgei of Nike.
