A number of teams and the agent of former NFL player Chris Smith confirmed his death on Tuesday.
He was 31. The Jacksonville Jaguars selected the defensive end in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft,
and he spent eight years playing for five different teams.
Smith, who last month signed with the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL, passed away suddenly; no cause of death was immediately disclosed.
Agent Drew Rosenhaus tweeted, "Rest in Peace Chris," after learning of Smith's passing from West Rowan High School in North Carolina.
To his family, friends, and loved ones, I extend my condolences. You are missed by us.
The Cleveland Browns, for whom Smith played in 2018 and 2019, stated that Smith was "one of the kindest people, teammates, and friends we've had in our organization.
